Marinvest Engineering has been formed to support the development of new technical solutions for the Marinvest fleet.


Marinvest Engineering develop innovative, smart and effective solutions which improve vessel safety, operations and performance.

Being a very ambitious, curious and hands-on manager in daily contact with our vessels we do not accept “as is” or supplier solutions that are not up to Marinvest standards. Marinvest Engineering have delivered solutions and systems for alternative propulsion, hull performance monitoring, rigid wing & marginal sailing concepts, on board hull cleaning & grooming systems, foldable mast solutions, energy savings programs, speed & performance programs, etc.

Marinvest Alternative Propulsion System (MAPS)

A revolutionary Alternative Propulsion System including a patented shaft disconnector. Cargo owners, charterers and the public focus on safety, including the safe operation of the main propulsion. A main propulsion failure may cause catastrophic costs with salvage and disastrous environmental consequences.

The installation of alternative propulsion in a ship fitted with a slow speed diesel main engine is a complex issue, due to the high power, the high torque and low RPM, both in normal and emergency mode. Realizing that slow speed diesel engines propel the majority of the world’s tonnage the new and innovative method of alternative propulsion developed represents a significant step in decreasing the risk of pollution catastrophes, salvage operations etc.

Faced with the requirement of alternative propulsion for a series of Panamax LR1 Ice 1A tankers the need for innovation was imminent as there was no other commercial solution available. Marinvest Engineering decided to go for an in-house solution.

speedSpeed & Consumption

Understanding that an intimate knowledge of the performance of our ships, over a wide range of speeds and conditions, lays a solid foundation for efficient day to day operations, Marinvest has conducted a number of speed and consumption related projects. As a result our fleet consistently improves, staying competitive irrespective of market conditions and bunker prices. Performance is measured and evaluated using an in-house system, adapted to match the incentives applicable to our respective ship types. Furthermore, external resources are employed to accommodate charter specific needs, building on long term relationships.

As part of our continuous strive for improvement Marinvest has pioneered fuel mass flow meters and online engine measurement for accurate consumption and power measurement. Adding an in-house developed Hull Inspection Camera for vessel born hull condition monitoring has provided detailed knowledge and insight into the actual performance and condition of our hulls. This allows for strategic and timely hull and propeller cleanings, ensuring optimal performance, reducing undue wear on the modern, high-performance anti-fouling used. The installation of Variable Frequency Drives for both engine room fans and cooling water pumps, projects with a payback time under 6 months even with today’s lower fuel prices, has helped reduce the environmental impact from auxiliary consumption.

Marinvest has recently completed an engine/propeller pitch optimization program for the ice class series ships. Installing advanced Gertsen & Olufsen H-moment vibration compensators has allowed an increased propeller pitch, improving the performance by as much as 1 ton of bunkers per day, guaranteeing a very short payback time on the investment.

After the delivery of the Brodosplit series of ships a specific need arose from one of the charterers for a reduced air draft of the ships, in order to gain access to certain ports. Marinvest met this challenge with flexibility and an open attitude, undertaking an engineering project that modified the full series. Thanks to an ingenious foldable top mast, designed in-house, Marinvest was able to clear the way, serving the specific operational need of our customer.
