Celebrating 10,000 running hours

The vessels Mari Jone and Mari Boyle which were delivered in April, 2016 respectively August, 2016 from Hyundai Mipo, being the world’s first Methanol dual-fueled tankers celebrate reaching another milestone. They have collectively reached 10,000 successful running hours on clean burning methanol. Thanks to a close cooperation between managers, charterers, engine maker and builder and the yard it has been possible to overcome many of the hurdles associated with novel technology. At the time of writing a staggering 360,000 kg of sulphur oxides emissions have been saved on these two vessels alone, thanks to the pioneering spirit and willingness to promote the environmentally friendly marine fuel showed by charterers Waterfront Shipping, a subsidiary of Methanex Corporation.
